The ride into London remains a drag to this day - the usual depressing, gray-overcast welcome mat. The architectural suburban mundaneness that borders the ride into my old hometown was, and is, as predictable as a Manfred Mann ditty. The bleak vista is only broken, shortly before Hammersmith, by a couple of interesting sandcastle-art, industrial-turreted complexes sprayed in a radiant green-gray puke, housing either a paint or a chocolate factory - perhaps both. But I had no time to be tired of London or life. I was fired by the Yank unhappening and consumed by the notion of what could happen for the Stones. We were going to have to go back, and back, until we got it right. Meantime I had this unreal holiday on ice to overcome. My mission was to convey, via some well-designed mediaspeak, how groundbreaking our U.S. tour had been.
